In an op-ed for Time magazine, Bono has called on men to help reduce gender inequality.

The op-ed comes less than a fortnight since Bono was complaining that music has gotten ‘too girly’. The 57-year-old singer pointed out that problems like ‘misogyny, violence and poverty’ that can’t be solved at ‘half-strength, which is the way we’ve been operating for a few millennia now.’

He says that his wife and daughters have home-schooled him on the extent that sexism affects women.

[Bono's daughter] Jordan reminds me that there is nowhere on earth where women have the same opportunity as men. Nowhere. Which has something to do with the fact that around the world, there are 130 million girls who are not in school. Denying girls what an education offers – a fair shot, a path out of poverty – means women can work the land but can’t own it. They can earn the money but can’t bank it.

Bono added that he’s aware that eliminating the gender gap in education will not bring an end to ‘rampant, conscious and unconscious’ sexism. He says that it’s up to men to ‘clean up the mess [they've] made and are still making’.

He also shared a lesson his wife has been teaching him since he was a teenager. “Don’t look down on me, but don’t look up to me, either. Look across to me. I’m here.” The singer also said that “making education a priority is a way of making equality a priority, and even men with limited vision should see that’s the only way forward.” (Time)

Liam Gallagher has broken his truce with brother Noel after just over a fortnight

Just before Christmas, the Gallagher brothers declared a ceasefire on Twitter insults. Yesterday, Liam swiftly brought that to an end by slamming comments his brother made in a podcast in December.

Noel criticised solo artists who rely on teams of songwriters. NG said that himself, Paul Weller and Johnny Marr were the only singer/songwriters with integrity, while Richard Ashcroft, Liam Gallagher, Ed Sheeran and ‘the little fella from One Direction’ all have an army of songwriters behind them. And so Liam launched a tirade of tweets:

Dig me out all day long rkid, but Richard Ashcroft pisses all over you and the 2 Ronnie’s every day of the wk as you were LG x.
When was the last time you and your purists had a HIT you and the purple rinse brigade PARK THE BUS boring boring boring boring boring.

There were several other tweets, but they make even less sense than the ones quoted above. A fan then said “What about the truce?”, to which Liam replied “F**k the truce.” (NME)

Numerous prominent artists have signed an open letter in support of Lorde’s boycott of Israel.

In a letter published by the Guardian, they wrote:

We write in support of Lorde, who made public her decision not to perform in Israel and has now been branded a bigot in a full page advertisement in the Washington Post. Shmuley Boteach, the author and promoter of the advert supports Israel’s illegal settlements and wrote last month on Breitbart to thank Donald Trump for “electrifying the world” with his recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital in defiance of international law.
He has nothing to teach artists about human rights. We deplore the bullying tactics being used to defend injustice against Palestinians and to suppress artist’s freedom of conscience. We support Lorde’s right to take a stand.

John Cusack, Brian Eno, Peter Gabriel, David Gray, Angela Davis, Kathleen Hanna, Mark Ruffalo, Ken Loach and Viggo Mortensen were among the 100 individuals to sign the letter. (The Guardian)
